The Native American Cultural and Historic Center will be presented in the Native American Historic & Cultural Center — Town Office Firebay located on Main Street, next to the Genoa Town Hall and across the street from the famous, historic Genoa Bar. CLICK HERE to see the Schedule of Native American Center events below.

Artisans and crafts people from the Great Basin Tribes will display and sell their work at the Center as part of the Genoa Cowboy Festival. They will include jewelry, drum and beadwork makers, silversmiths, basket weavers and visual artists.

In addition to the artisan show, there will be demonstrations of the Native culture and heritage with traditional singing and dancing.

Presentations will include Flint Knapping, Washoe Language Preservation, Washoe History & Cultural Preservation, Washoe Language Storytelling, and Basket Making.

Pyramid Lake High School Dance Group, AGAI Doi Diocutta Dancers, Washoe Little Head Start Tatalngl Miki Easgles Nest Performers, and Flute Player Sam Hunter will be performing throughout the Festival. The dancers will demonstrate dances unique to the Nevada tribes before the powwow came to be danced. Dances will include those that are very simple dances, the original Nevada style of dancing such as the Eagle Dance, the Circle Dance, the Deer Dance and several others. Dancers include children and adults and have their own drum performers who sing songs that are unique to their group.

Native American Cultural demonstrations will occur throughout the Festival. Attendees are invited to take advantage of this unique opportunity to learn about Carson Valley and Nevada’s Native American cultural heritage.
